If you’re wondering what happened to the pretty robin design that’s been here for the last month or so, let me explain.
Have you ever gone shopping and been attracted to an outfit that was totally different than what you usually wear? Maybe it’s a brighter colour, or a shorter skirt, or maybe it’s something else altogether, but you try it on and it seems to fit, so you decide to buy it. Then, after wearing it a few times, you realize you’re really not comfortable in it. You know you look good, but you feel like you’re wearing someone else’s clothes. So into the Goodwill bag it goes.
That’s basically what happened here. I had spent hours looking for the “perfect” theme for my blog, but none of them were quite what I had in mind. There were a couple that I really liked, but when I tried them out, they didn’t work properly, and I ultimately decided on Chirp. I was a little disappointed that the theme was so elaborate that it didn’t really allow me to show off my customization skills, but figured that wasn’t really a priority.
After the initial excitement wore off, I realized I’d made the wrong choice and began searching again. It was more challenging this time, because WordPress has completely revamped their Theme Directory, reducing the number of choices and making it more time-consuming to search. After spending more hours than I should exploring other theme directories, it hit me – why not design my own? After all, I’ve been designing websites for over 10 years, have customized several WordPress themes, and have a good understanding of CSS – and this is the result. I hope you like it as much as I do!

I like this version much better – especially the background – it goes with your blog name. You did a great job designing the theme. What have you called it?
Thanks, Alex – I call it “View from the Top” and you’ve reminded me that I need to add that somewhere!
I’ve just been reading all the blog entries you made while I was away, and even before I came to this one, I was thinking, “What a great photo, and it fits so perfectly with the ‘From the Desk of…’ heading too.” Don’t send this one to Goodwill!

No worries there, Kathy – this one fits me like a glove!
