I’ve been tagged by Ariane Benefit, so instead of my usual brilliance, today you get to read all about me. It’s challenging to come up with 7 things that might be of interest, that I don’t mind sharing with any strangers who wander by, and that I haven’t already mentioned in my blog, but it sounds like a fun way to begin the week, so here goes!
- I like to make greeting cards. So far I’ve just made a card here and there for friends and family members, but eventually I’d like to have a big supply on hand so I’m prepared for all special occasions. And maybe even sell them some day.
- My first experience with website design was over 10 years ago. One of Scott’s co-workers trained me on the basics, so I could assist him in his part-time business. The first site I created on my own was for my sister, Kathy Stinson (which has been revamped several times since then).
As a child, I was an avid reader. I re-read books so often that after reading Anne of Green Gables (a gift from my aforementioned sister), I wouldn’t allow myself to read it more than once in a six-month period so it wouldn’t get stale. It’s been years since I last picked it up – maybe it’s time to read it again!- I haven’t always been a “cat person.” Growing up, I had a toy poodle named Toro, and as an adult I had two Lhasa Apsos named Andy and Peanut, before my husband Scott introduced me to cats. I still think dogs are wonderful, but cats are a lot less work.
- One of the most interesting places I’ve ever visited was Rapid City, South Dakota.
- I have seen Blue Rodeo
four times and own every one of their CDs.
- I love to do the New York Times Sunday Crossword.
Now I’m supposed to tag a few people, which is yet another challenge, because Ariane already tagged Suzanne, who in turn tagged Marcia, but who knows? Maybe Kathy, Alex, or Melodee will play along! You’ll just have to visit their blogs to find out…

WOOHOO! Congrats on your move to Wordpress!
I guess great minds think alike…I’m planning to do the same! I’m moving my business to http://www.arianebenefit.com a site I’ve had for 13 years. It was my old corporate consulting site, but I think the time has come to bring it back : )
We should talk!
Oh, Janet, I’m definitely NOT a cat person and they know it so they make their way to me in a determined fashion and try to curl up around my legs. Uggghhhhh!
Gross
But WHAT a cute picture of you!
Ariane – WordPress rocks! My business website is still a traditional site but I can see converting it to WordPress too within the next year or so.
Marcia – That is typical cat behaviour, and there are many theories as to why they do that. I don’t know which is right, but this one makes the most sense to me: “Cats, like many animals, take stares as threats to their well-being. A person who doesn’t like cats tends to avoid eye contact with the cat because they think looking at the cat will draw the cat towards them. Quite the opposite is in fact true. If five strangers are in the room, the cat is likely to go to the person not looking at them as they feel the least threatened by this person.” (source: http://www.thingsyoudontneedtoknow.com/catfacts.html)
It would be pretty hard to come up with 7 things YOU don’t know about me, but I will certainly try to come up with 7 things that a lot of people don’t know about me – things that, as you say, you don’t mind sharing with strangers!
That theory about cats going to people who aren’t looking at them is fascinating. As one of those (allergic) people happy to avoid close up feline visits, I’ll have to remember to try looking right at the next cat I’m in a room with.
OK Janet. I’ll take on your challenge!
Give me a couple of days to try to think of 7 things that other people might want to know about me. My life is pretty boring: work, work, work
Melodee and Kathy, I’ll give you both a few days to come up with some ideas, but I’ll be looking for your posts!
By the way, I discovered yesterday that I did a similar exercise in January 2007, and I didn’t even repeat any facts! If I can come up with 12, surely you can each come up with a few.
You are just one big treasure trove of secrets, Janet! We’ll have to get into the Bailey’s earlier on our next visit.
Kathy, I’m surprised you didn’t already know all these things…
Well, I knew 1, 2, half of 3, and 4. If I knew 5, I’d forgotten, and I didn’t know 6 or 7. But if asked T or F to 7 I would have guessed T.
Kathy, you probably didn’t know about 5. That was around the time your children grew up when I wasn’t looking.
I wondered if it might have been.
You’ll have to tell me about it some time.
