If you haven’t guessed, I just love this time of year. For starters, that blank new calendar offers countless possibilities! So many major events happened during 2008 that were only vague ideas a year ago:
- Scott came to work with me full-time and became certified as an Internet Marketing Virtual Assistant
- We launched The Organized Marketplace
- I founded the Golden Horseshoe Virtual Assistants Group
In addition, we began working with a number of awesome new clients and offering exciting new services, such as blog design and social networking support. I just can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year!
The other aspect I like about starting a new year is the opportunity to streamline and implement new procedures. Scott and I have come up with a few ways to improve our internal operations, and a new year is the perfect time to make those changes.
If you’ve been reading my blog all year, you may be aware that I’ve been engaged in an ongoing battle to make my computer run more efficiently. I resisted the recommendation to format the hard drive and start clean, as I wasn’t willing to devote the time it would take to reinstall all my software. However, I finally succumbed to the fact that although Norton 360 was doing a good job protecting my system, it was a total drain of my system resources, so I uninstalled it and replaced it with AVG, and I can’t believe the difference. It’s as though I have a brand new computer, and that’s a great way to start the new year!
I wish you all a very Happy New Year and hope that 2009 will be your best year ever!

I looked at AVG Free but am concerned that the level of protection it offers would leave me vulnerable to what could be serious threats. I think I’d be more comfortable with AVG Internet Security. Maybe I’ll download the free 30-day Trial Version and see if it slows my computer down less than Norton, and if it’s better, pay the $60/year (with discounts for return customers who are renewing).
One question: do I unintall Norton before downloading AVG or after?
Kathy, here are the steps you should follow:
1. Download (not install) AVG to your desktop.
2. Disconnect from the internet.
3. Uninstall Norton.
4. Install AVG.
5. Reconnect.
Quite normal you’ve presented several good facts. Been a lurker on the site for some time and needed to thank you for making the effort to write it.
