If someone were to ask you whether you’re committed to excellence, I have no doubt that you would answer “yes!” I don’t know very many people who would admit to doing anything less than their very best work.

But can you honestly say that you strive to do your best every single day?

Are you truly committed to displaying excellence in everything that you do?

Excellence in Your Professional Image

Are your website and social media profiles up-to-date in both content and appearance?

If not, this is a good place to start.

Your online image has a huge impact on people’s perception of you. If you run engaging social media campaigns and are seen interacting in various places, you’ll seem open and approachable, allowing potential clients to feel as though they know you and increasing the likelihood that you’ll come to mind when they need your products or services.

Excellence through Focus

Instead of trying to do a million things for your business, focus your energy and passion into one activity at a time. Not only will this demonstrate your commitment to excellence, it will help you to make mindful choices and lead a more balanced life.

Excellence through Flexibility

Are you willing to do things differently?

When something isn’t working, are you stubborn about sticking to your ways, or do you take advice and attempt to change what you’re doing?

Being flexible will help you to increase your confidence and self-esteem, and ultimately excel at more tasks.

Excellence ≠ Perfection

No one expects you to be perfect – none of us are! However, you can commit to excellence in your business by taking ownership of the choices you make.

For example, if you run a service-based business, you can commit to excellence by giving more value and finishing work ahead of schedule.

Demanding more from yourself than your clients demand of you is a great way to put your commitment to excellence into practice.

Why commit to excellence anyway?

Consistently putting the best effort you can into everything you do will help you to stand out in your field and position you for success.

I am definitely committed to excellence because I think this is how you show your brand to the world. Do you show up and give your full effort and attention? Do you treat clients ethically? Do you push through that extra bit of effort to really deliver as opposed to doing the minimum? Are you on time to the best of your ability?

That said, as you point out, we can’t be perfect. We also can’t focus on everything at one time. I think it has helped me to focus on one aspect of business and keep at that until it feels almost routine. Then I have the bandwidth to work on something else. Any given day, my top priority may need to change, but it helps to have that focus and challenge myself to keep at it until I am happy with the result.

This includes pursuing excellence in the little things as well. I even wrote a post about Doing Things Well- very similar thoughts, although different subject matter. Nice to know we share this commitment.
